RED STAGE

5 to 8 years

• Discovering and developing tennis specific skills including an introduction to specific tennis strokes, basic strategies and the rally.

• Players use a larger and softer ball with smaller court dimensions, typically 1/2 court.

  What parents can expect: Children learn the basics of rallying, serving, and scoring while developing coordination and confidence in a supportive, social setting.

Coaching Available at Waikanae

Monday & Friday - 3.45pm to 4.30pm.

Times Available at Tawa

Wednesday - 4.15pm to 5.00pm.

8 to 10 years

• Focus: Developing tennis specific skills like serving, rallying, volleying, and footwork.

• Players use softer balls (50% Slower than a standard tennis ball) and game is played on a 3/4 court.

  What parents can expect: Kids gain confidence in extended rallies, directional hitting, and tactical play. They may start participating in informal matches.

9 to 12 years

What Players Learn:

• Technical Skills: Proper swing mechanics, diverse shot placement (topspin, slice).

• Tactical Skills: Game styles and shot selection.

• Physical Skills: Quick reactions, footwork and recovery.

• Mental Skills: Good sportsmanship, fair play, and personal strengths

• Refining more complex tennis specific skills and game related strategies.

• Players use a softer ball “green dot” (Slower and 25% lower bounce).

• Completing the transition to full-court tennis.

  What parents can expect: Children develop competitive skills, preparing them for junior club tennis, tournaments, and long-term participation in the sport.
